About The Blohmstead

What started as a conscious effort to live more sustainably in the city grew into something beautiful when we made an unexpected move to a rural, nature-abundant spot in Northern Michigan. That shift inspired us to dive deep into our love for gardening, using the land around us to grow our own food and connect with nature in ways we never imagined.

Building out our garden was just the beginning. As we got our hands dirty, we found ourselves learning new skills: tackling house projects, sewing our first pieces, and even venturing into baking with our very own sourdough starter. And one day, we woke up to a dozen chickens happily clucking around the yard. Little by little, we realized that our happiest moments came from being together, nurturing our garden, and investing time into our family’s health. It was a way of life we didn’t even know we were searching for.

But here’s the thing — as we turned to social media for gardening inspiration, we noticed so many of the homesteading stories out there felt… well, a bit out of reach. We weren’t in a place to homestead full-time, homeschool our kids, or live entirely off the grid. But we knew we could still embrace this lifestyle in our own way. For us, it’s about finding balance, even if that means tending to our garden after a 9-5 or on weekends.

That’s why we’re here, sharing the tools, guides, and tips that have helped us (and continue to!) grow our own food, reconnect with nature, and simplify our lives. Whether you’re in a city apartment, a suburban backyard, or a small rural plot, you can cultivate a garden — and with it, a little slice of that homesteader’s joy. Trust us… there’s nothing sweeter than harvesting something you’ve grown yourself.
